Hot Mix Asphalt
M & M Asphalt Paving produces stable and high quality hot mixes that ensure a professional paving everytime. Whether paving a ranch road, parking lot or a driveway, our hot mixes have plenty of fines that give the job that "tight" look and feel. In addition, our mixes have just enough coarse aggregate to maintain stability.
To produce Hot Mix Asphalt we elevate the temperature of it, mix, place and compact it, hence the name. Hot Mix is the most common method for roads and insterstates and is typically applied in 4 to 8 inch layers, having the lower layer acting as support to the upper layer. The aggregates in the bottom layers are chosen to produce stability while preventing rutting and failure, while the aggregates in the surface course are chosen for their friction properties and durability.
Benefits of Hot Mix Asphalt
100% recyclable material - reduces the need for new aggregate
More cost-effective than concrete
Requires less maintenance over the life of pavement
Improves roadway safety and reduces crashes
Eliminates the need for costly reinforcing materials

Chip & Seal
Chip & Seal, or Tar & Chip, which it is less commonly called by, is by far the cost effective paving choice for new construction, or as a maintenance layer for older asphalt pavement.
One highly desirable attribute of Chip & Seal is the ability to choose the color of your driveway simply by selecting the color of the stone that is used. This allows you to easily choose a driveway color that complements the colors of your house and landscaping.
Chip & Seal is also a good choice to be used to seal and fill the cracks before placing an asphalt overlay and is a common pavement maintenance practice that extends pavement life and provides a good driving surface for many, many years.
Chip Sealing, or Tar and Chip, involves spraying a hot rubber-based emulsion onto the surface, then immediately spreading a layer of uniformly sized aggregate chips. The hot rubberized asphalt emulsion retains flexibility and will not bleed through the aggregate overlay. The new surface is rolled to seat the aggregate. After a very short curing time, pavement is swept of excess aggregate and is ready for use.
